Centralised management

To roll out and manage groups of CACHEBOX appliances ApplianSys has created the CACHEBOX Central Management Console (CMC).  Running in the core network it enables you to configure, monitor, update, backup and recover multiple devices.  Additionally it serves as an information repository for data pertaining to the individual CACHEBOXes, their physical location, other key servers on their networks and contact information.

The CMC allows for monitoring and simultaneous batched administration of multiple units, drastically reducing the time it takes you to roll out changes.

 

 

Administration
Using the CMC, a number of CACHEBOX functions can be administered centrally on a batch basis across multiple devices.  For example, when pre-caching data on devices, you can transmit scheduling and site details to a group of units simultaneously.

Where changes need to be made to an individual unit, as the administrator, you are linked directly to the required CACHEBOX’s own interface.

 

Monitoring
The CMC supports proactive device monitoring constantly polling each CACHEBOX and collating data that reflects its current state. Visual warnings let you know of any abnormalities encountered allowing you to take preventative action. The statistics gathered include environmental factors (such as temperatures), network (usage, visibility of the CACHEBOX and other servers such as router and Active Directory) and load (e.g. CPU and disk usage). Status figures and advice can be exported for detailed analysis.

 

Backup and Recovery
The CMC can automatically backup all group configurations on a daily basis.  In order to roll back configuration to a previous day or allow for rapid deployment of a new machine, the CMC allows you to apply specific backup configurations to given IP addresses. For example, if a replacement CACHEBOX is plugged into the network and powered on, it will come up on a default IP address. Clicking one button in the CMC interface will configure the new device with the previous configuration.

 

Updates
ApplianSys uses a stripped down, security-hardened appliance platform ensuring the majority of security threats have no impact on its appliances.  Typically, only a few updates need to be applied each year and the ability to apply upgrades via the web interface makes the process quick and easy.

For a group of devices the CMC automates the process, showing which CACHEBOXes can be updated and enabling simultaneous batch updates to multiple boxes.
